Opus appoints new Director of International Growth
Hugh Morrison has been appointed as Opus’ new Director of International Growth. He will commence the role on 13 October 2014 replacing the incumbent Alec Webster who retires at the end of 2014.
Mr Morrison was recently Group CEO and Director of Arrow International Group Ltd. He brings to the role extensive experience in the infrastructure sector in senior management and directorship roles.
“We are delighted to have Hugh coming on board to lead our international growth programme. His business acumen and strong strategic growth experience will be a significant asset to our business,” said Dr David Prentice, Chief Executive of Opus.
“Opus has undergone substantial growth and geographical expansion over recent years,” said Dr Prentice. “This role will focus on creating new opportunities to take the business to its next level of development, servicing wider markets with our specialist infrastructure development and management capabilities.”
Mr Morrison’s engineering career began working for Opus’ predecessor, Ministry of Works and Development. In 1991, he was appointed to the role of Commercial Manager (International) and managed the commercial affairs of the company’s international offices including London, Singapore and a JV in Hong Kong.
Mr Morrison moved to Arrow International Ltd as Regional Manager/National Business Development Manager in 1994. He was then promoted to the role of CEO/Director of Arrow’s Australian business in 2002, developing the company from a start-up to a self-sustaining subsidiary.
He returned to New Zealand in 2002 to take up the role of CEO/Director for the New Zealand business, growing both the brand and profitability of the company during this time.
In 2011, he was appointed to the role of Group CEO/Director with responsibility for three subsidiaries including Arrow’s New Zealand and Australian businesses as well as Arcus Properties Limited. In this role, Mr Morrison successfully developed the Groups’ strategic direction and drove operational synergies between the businesses.
Mr Morrison holds an MBA from Otago University, a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) from Canterbury University, and is a graduate from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business.
