Levin wool innovation company set to grow with global interest in its advanced fabric which improves clothing performance, comfort and characteristics.
According to independent tests, the NUYARN® product developed by The Merino Company (TMC) dries five times faster than conventional merino, provides 35 percent greater loft, 35 percent more stretch, 35 percent more warmth, 47 percent more strength, and 53 percent increase in wind resistance compared to competitor performance fabrics. It can also be blended with other materials including cotton, nylon, TENCEL®, Merino and bamboo to make the ultimate garments.
NUYARN® is a leap in material design and fabric construction technology developed by TMC over a number of years.
Andy Wynne, Chief Executive Officer at TMC says, “In my 30 years’ experience in the global garment industry, this specialised merino wool technology may change the face of fabric used in performance garments. It is in use by global companies who produce premium garment lines for their demanding sporting, outdoor and casualwear customers. The technology is creating a surge of interest and awe from global sporting and apparel companies who have never seen anything like it before.
The Textile Testing Laboratory at AgResearch in New Zealand follows international testing protocol and is recognised and respected for quality scientific and industrial research. They have conducted a series of tests on NUYARN® to confirm its superior qualities.
The test results from the Textile Testing Laboratory show those fabrics using NUYARN® are 120 percent tougher and offer immeasurable benefits for even the toughest customers when compared to existing conventional ‘ring spun’ merino fabrics.
“There is satisfaction in knowing we have the capacity and supply to meet extended customer demand that will create additional jobs for the Horowhenua region in a short space of time. Our roadmap is one of continuing to pursue excellence in fabric material design, and NUYARN® allows premium clothing and garment brands to move their customers towards garments they never want to remove.
“Getting to this point has not been without considerable sacrifice, effort and talent from trusted partners including Callaghan Innovation, AgResearch, Wool Industry Research Ltd and the Horowhenua Council Economic Development Team and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise. It also involves the unforgiving in quality and dedicated team behind TMC,” said Mr Wynne.
