Turners Announces Exclusive Partnership with Downer New Zealand
Turners Group (previously named Turners Auctions) has announced a new and exclusive partnership with Downer New Zealand,
to manage the sale and disposal of all of Downer New Zealand’s vehicles and plant assets.
Turners is New Zealand’s largest seller of used commercial trucks, machinery and equipment, with a team of dedicated
sales specialists in its branches across New Zealand.
The growing sales volumes in the commercial division has prompted Turners to expand its facilities, with a new
specialised commercial yard recently opened in Christchurch. A new site in Roscommon Rd has also been acquired to meet
the increased transaction volume in the Auckland market.
In line with its successful multi-channel retail model, which it introduced for used vehicles in 2013, Turners is also
now investing into online channels for commercial assets.
As well as buying through traditional auction, Turners’ customers can now buy commercial vehicles, machinery and
equipment through seven day online auctions running in parallel on Trade Me and the Turners website. In addition,
Turners has introduced a new online tender channel and extended its Buy Now retail offer, where items can be bought for
a fixed price.
To assist buyers, Turners also offers competitive financing through its finance division.
Turners expects to sell several hundred assets a year for Downer, from trucks, trailers, loaders and excavators to
mowers, scrub cutters and plate compactors. Downer is one of New Zealand’s largest industrial players and a leading
provider of engineering and infrastructure management services. With a portfolio of over 10,000 assets, the partnership
with Turners provides the means for Downer to effectively implement its asset replacement and disposal polices, says
Downer NZ National Plant Asset Manager, Mike Colbert.
“Earlier this year, Downer went to the market looking to establish a disposal partnership with a business that fully
understands our disposal requirements. Right from the outset I was impressed with Turners’ commitment to meeting
Downer’s specific requirements.
“Turners was the obvious choice for a disposal partner as their core values are aligned to Downer and, most importantly,
they are a reputable company to do business with. They provide a quality of service and support that is required when
you do business with a national company like Downer, and they embrace technology through their multiple sales channels.
If the initial trials we have completed are anything to go by, I believe we will have a long and very successful
partnership with Turners.”
The Downer assets will predominantly be sold through Turner’s new online channels. The exclusive partnership reflects
Turners commercial strength in this area of the market, says Turners’ CEO, Todd Hunter.
“We have provided a specialist service, valuing, appraising and selling trucks and machinery to New Zealand and
international customers, for the last six years. Our goal is to deliver the best possible results for our clients and we
are proud of our track record in this very competitive area of the market. We are looking forward to a long and
productive relationship with Downers.”
