The South Island’s largest ski area Treble Cone (Wanaka, New Zealand) has this enjoyed the mountains strongest ever August visitation throughout this winter.

Following a slightly delayed start to the which saw opening delayed by a week, Treble Cone built momentum, with two weeks of daily snowfalls delivering 2 metres of snow in late July and early August, which was followed by an extended fine weather spell with four weeks of consecutive blue sky days to enjoy the fantastic trail and off-piste snow conditions.

August was a month to delight skiers and snowboarders at Treble Cone, with daily new snow and powder to devour for the first two weeks, and daily blue skies to enrapture on perfectly groomed snow and off-piste delight for the second two weeks.

Treble Cone received 234cm of new snow falling between 29 July and 14 August, which saw the mountain fully open across the Home and Saddle Basins, Summit Slopes, and revered inbound expert only Motatapu Chutes.

When spring officially arrived on the 1st of September, Treble Cone was able to confirm that visitation throughout the peak season month of August had been the highest on record, with strong visitation from the local region, Kiwi domestic skiers, and also inbound Aussies.

The extended run of fine days, following the regular snowfalls early in the month, meant that the snow cover was in great shape, and families and groups of friends were able to enjoy spectacular views, New Zealand’s longest groomed trails, Queenstown and Wanaka’s highest vertical, and Treble Cone’s famed fun natural terrain.

The Saddle Basin snow depth which is measured at the top of the Saddle Quad chairlift at an elevation of 1960m peaked at 259cm deep through the middle of August.

September at Treble Cone commenced with great Spring snow, and it is currently snowing nicely with 15cm accumulated at the top of the Saddle Basin throughout today.
