Fairfax Sustainable 60 Awards finalists announced
15 September 2014, Auckland: Finalists for the 2014 Sustainable 60 Awards have been announced today, with 20 companies in the running for the title of New Zealand’s most sustainable business.
The annual Sustainable 60 Awards recognise sustainable business excellence and are supported by Fairfax Media and the Sustainable Business Council, along with partners Deloitte, the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) and Sustainable Edge.
The awards are an opportunity for companies to showcase and be recognised for their commitment to sustainable business and to share best practice and celebrate success.
There are five Sustainable 60 Award categories:
• Strategy and Governance – The structure and road map that creates a sustainable business
• Workplace – Creating great workplaces through positive initiatives
• Marketplace – Sustainable initiatives throughout the value chain; from sourcing resources, to manufacturing, to selling, to customer use and finally end of life
• Environment – Managing the environmental impact and creating better business performance
• Community – Creating positive community and business outcomes
There are also Overall Sustainable Business Awards (Small, Medium, Large) that recognise consistent good performance across all the categories.
This year’s entries were judged by a panel of ten experts from Deloitte, impactCR, New Zealand Superannuation Fund, Fairfax Media, Ebos Group, Business NZ, Massey University and 37 Degrees South.
Competition convenor and sustainability consultant Annette Lusk says this year’s entries represent a significant shift towards sustainable practices across multiple areas of business operation.
“This year’s entries stood out for two reasons; integrated sustainable strategies across all areas of large corporations, and exciting innovations in smaller businesses.
“2014 is definitely the year sustainability has matured amongst corporates. This year’s finalists have made sustainability an essential part of operation, from boardroom strategy right through to implementation at staff level,” says Annette.
Deloitte Partner and Sustainable 60 Awards’ judge Jacqueline Robertson was also impressed by the calibre of this year’s entries.
“The standard of the entries has been excellent, making the judging process extremely difficult. I would like to congratulate all the finalists for their continued innovation and positive contribution to driving better outcomes, not just for their own businesses, but for their employees, the environment and New Zealand as a whole,” says Jacqueline.
