IMMEDIATE RELEASE 14 September, 2014
FISH & GAME APPOINTS NATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER
Fish & Game has appointed veteran journalist and broadcaster Don Rood as the organisation's national communications manager.
Don Rood has worked as a journalist for the last 36 years mainly in public service broadcasting and also in newspapers and commercial radio. For the past 11 years he has been Head of News at Radio New Zealand and has won numerous international and national awards.
Rood is also a keen angler and hunter.
Announcing the appointment, Fish & Game chief executive Bryce Johnson said New Zealand's outdoor lovers were facing big challenges and Fish & Game was determined to stand up for their rights, and those of anglers and game bird hunters in particular.
"I firmly believe that New Zealand is at a crossroads determining how this country's finite land and water resources are used and we are now staring down the barrel of irreversible environmental change, due primarily to intensification of farming," Mr Johnson said.
"I am looking forward to working with Don in meeting those challenges and preserving the quality of outdoor recreation that all New Zealanders enjoy."
Don Rood said he was delighted to work for an organisation dedicated to the environment, protecting habitat and the public good.
"I have had a long career in public service broadcasting and Fish & Game has a similar commitment to working in the interests of New Zealanders," he said.
"I love the outdoors and this position combines my passion for hunting and fishing with my love of writing and communicating."
Don Rood will take up his new role in Wellington in mid-October.
