Pic’s is picked by leading Australian supermarket chain

Media release: Pic’s is picked by leading Australian supermarket chain Coles for national distribution

New Zealand’s best-selling peanut butter, Pic’s Really Good Peanut Butter, has been selected by Australian supermarket chain Coles for nationwide retail sale.

All of Coles’ 762 stores around Australia will stock Pic’s from October 2014. Pic’s will double its production output in order to meet Coles’ supply requirements.

“We’ve been ready for an increase in demand like this for some time,” says Pic Picot, owner of the company. “Quality is everything to us and we needed to make sure increasing our output wouldn't affect the taste. Our challenge now is to ensure Australians discover how good our peanut butter is as quickly as possible.

“Being taken on by Coles is particularly exciting given that we are the only new product listed in their spreads category and only one of a very small number of new products going into Coles at this time.” says Pic Picot.

“We are particularly delighted to be supplying Coles as it makes our yummy peanut butter easily available to everyone, all over Australia. Our nuts come from there and I think Australians appreciate that as a New Zealand company we choose to use their hi-oleic nuts not for nationalistic reasons, but because they are the best in the world.”

Coles Category Manager for spreads, Daryl Desfosses said, ”We currently don’t offer our customers anything quite like Pic’s Really Good Peanut Butter. It is a top quality product that will attract a premium customer for us.”

And in a new addition, Coles' display cartons for Pic’s Peanut Butter will feature the new Health Star Rating – a new ‘front of pack’ nutrition labelling system. The system is currently voluntary in Australia and soon to be introduced in New Zealand. Pic’s will be including the Health Star Rating on its New Zealand products in the near future.

Derek Kirk from DK Consulting brokered the Coles deal on behalf of Pic’s Really Good Peanut Butter and says that Pic’s will be a great addition to Coles’ premium catalogue. “Pic’s products have already created a great place for themselves in the spreads category in Australian deli and specialty stores. Their success, despite the recession, is a wonderful example of what is possible when a really good product is combined with an entrepreneurial spirit and an extraordinarily loyal customer following.”
