Sileni Nano offers a new way to enjoy wine, one glass at a time

Sileni Estates will become the first New Zealand winery to design and sell a 100% recyclable, all-in-one glass and bottle. Created to deliver a great glass of wine for any occasion, Sileni NANO comes in a unique single-serve package made from multi-layer plastic, making it leak-proof and unbreakable.

Sileni looked to France, to develop the innovative NANO bottle, made from advanced Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET), which includes UV light absorbing materials and oxygen protection measures to safeguard wine quality.

“Our aim is to create a product that will allow people to enjoy great tasting wine, wherever they happen to be. Many occasions don’t permit glass, or a 750ml bottle is too large, so we wanted to provide an alternative that delivered convenience but didn’t compromise on wine quality,” says Sileni Estates CEO, Graeme Avery.

Traditionally plastic packaging alternatives have not protected the wine from oxygen and light, meaning the wine is not at its best when people drink it.

“We’ve been working on this product for more than four years. We were unable to find a package we were happy with locally, so we’ve invested in a joint-venture with leading French producer Paul Sapin. For us it was essential to ensure the package was unbreakable, fully recyclable and most importantly, would guarantee the wine tasted great when it reached consumers,” says Mr Avery.

NANO features the same wine as the award-winning Sileni Cellar Selection range. NANO is available in a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand Pinot Noir and a French Grenache Rose.

Each bottle requires less energy to manufacture, incorporates recycled materials and is up to six times lighter to transport than a similar glass bottle. The all-in-one glass and bottle contains 187ml of wine, protected with a hygiene seal and has a shelf-life of 24 months.

“NANO means wine drinkers can now enjoy a great quality glass of wine when at a sports match, music festival, travelling on rail or boat, hiking, at the beach, or at a picnic. The single-serve package allows you to enjoy just one glass, perfect for anytime you don’t want to open a 750ml bottle.”

The NANO range is available now from good bottle stores and select supermarkets, with an RRP of $5.00 per bottle.
