RETAILERS BAND TOGETHER TO KEEP KIWI DOLLARS IN NZ
3rd September, 2014
New Zealanders are spending more and more online, and Kiwi retailers are banding together to keep that spend here in New
Zealand.
"On Monday 15 September, New Zealand retailers are getting together on www.clickmonday.co.nz to offer Kiwi consumers an online shopping smorgasbord that is expected to drive thousands of purchases from Kiwi
websites," Click Monday Spokesperson Cate Bryant announced today.
"Click Monday holds New Zealand's biggest online sales days, based on the legendary Cyber Monday event out of the US.
Clickmonday.co.nz is a centralized site that showcases brands and offers from New Zealand retailers across many
categories. Users find an offer on site and then click through to the retailer's site to make their purchase.
"In the first ever event in November 2013, more than 80 retailers brought Kiwis hundreds of special online offers, and
consumers clicked more than 300,000 times through to retailers' sites. The offers were a big hit, with retailers selling
as much as four to ten times their normal daily sales. It was an outstanding success by any measure.”
Cate Bryant said that this year, Click Monday will be on September 15th and November 24th. Many large retailers already
signed up for both September and November, and new retailers are signing up every day. Radio and online advertising
kicks off this week, with consumers encouraged to sign up with a cash draw. "This year we expect our consumer database
to double from an already significant base," said Ms Bryant.
Click Monday has partnered with Retail NZ and New Zealand Post to support the event. Retail NZ has helped market the
event to its members while New Zealand Post has come to the party with a 20% discount offer tailored to SMEs using their
online ParcelRewards loyalty scheme for delivery products and services paid for online. “We’re delighted that the
broader industry is banding together to provide real value for both consumers and businesses online”.
Internationally, events like Click Monday have become highly significant retail events. "In China last year, a similar
event delivered more than USD 5.75 billion of sales. Click Monday is here to grow sales for New Zealand retailers
online, and we hope that by raising the profile of online shopping, more local businesses will see the opportunities
that lie beyond New Zealand’s borders as well”, Ms Bryant said.
