3 Wise Men announces next phase of expansion plans
Roll out “shop and fly” strategy; delivering unique levels of convenience to business travellers
3 Wise Men’s newest store opens in Auckland Airport’s domestic terminal on 8 September
AUCKLAND, NZ – They have created a distinctive menswear brand, established eight stores across New Zealand, and launched a redesigned website that has boosted online sales by 76 percent.
Today, the 3 Wise Men team announce the next phase of their ambitious expansion plans – the opening of the newest store in Auckland Airport’s domestic terminal on Monday, 8 September.
“We opened a store in Wellington Airport in 2010, and it’s hit a sweet spot with business travellers,” says 3 Wise Men Managing Director, Richard Miles. “Men like to shop on the run. Having our store in the airport means that a mid-air spill on a shirt, a forgotten tie before a meeting, or lost luggage, are all suddenly no longer issues for the business traveller.”
The Wellington Airport store contributes to about 17 percent of the group’s total revenue. This consistent performance, combined with the UK-born trend of retail shirt businesses vying for space in key flight hubs, has given 3 Wise Men the confidence to push ahead with its airport roll out strategy.
“Airport retail spots are tightly held and very limited,” says Miles. “We’ve been in discussions with Auckland Airport for more than a year, waiting for the right position to become available. Auckland Airport is keen to expand its domestic terminal retail offering prior to the full terminal re-development project, so it was a happy meeting of minds.”
3 Wise Men’s Auckland Airport store will stock a complete range of shirts, with more than 80 different styles, along with a full range of accessories (ties, cufflinks, belts, boxer shorts and socks), and a comprehensive selection of 3 Wise Men footwear.
Delivering unprecedented levels of convenience, it will offer a “fly and collect” service, so travellers can pre-order their items online and pick them up on their way through the airport. Or, for businessmen who do not want to carry their shopping around for the day, they can select the “fly to your home” service. Time poor customers can also collect their purchases from another 3 Wise Men store once in the city.
“The shop has been designed by Dave Sweatman of Space Studio. It combines all the great design elements of our retail network, and makes incredibly clever use of very limited space. It will be open 365 days a year from 6am to 9pm.”
Miles predicts that the new Auckland Airport site should increase 3 Wise Men turnover by 15 percent over the next 12 months. Once it is up and running, he will be turning his attention to Christchurch Airport.
