Barker’s Success Spreads with Four More Award Nominations
Barker’s of Geraldine has been chosen as a finalist for four of its products across three categories in the 2014 New Zealand Food Awards.
The maker of New Zealand’s favourite preserves has been nominated in the “beverage” category for its special edition Mountain Moonshine. It also has been named twice in the “dry” category for Anathoth Farm’s jams & curds (for its Lemon Curd and Quince Conserve) and Anathoth Farm’s chutneys & relishes (for its Sweet Chilli Relish and Garden Chow Chow). Anathoth Farm joined the Barker’s family in 2007.
It has also been nominated in the “novel ingredients” category for BreadshotsTM an innovative flavour mix for bread bakers.
The latest nominations come just after Barker’s won three awards at the South Canterbury Business Awards, including the Supreme Award, Manufacturing and Primary Produce Award and the Innovation and Technology award.
Michael Barker says: “For more than 45 years, innovation has been a key part of our business success. From my father’s Elderberry Wine in the 1960s right through until the new Anathoth Farm packaging and Barker’s Mountain Moonshine in 2014, we are always looking for creative ways to satisfy our customers with products made from real fruit and vegetables and a minimum of processing and additives.
“Of course, not everything we launch is going to fly out the door and our Anathoth Quince Conserve is a great example of a niche product that will develop a loyal following from consumers who search out tasty products made using artisan processes which is what Anathoth Farm is all about.”
The New Zealand Food Awards are an opportunity to highlight the creative work of NZ food innovators in the areas of product development, packaging design, nutrition, enterprise and food safety.
“With more New Zealanders looking for alternative choices when it comes to food and beverage, the NZ Food Awards puts the spotlight on the quality of New Zealand products and Barker’s is delighted to be a part of it,“ says Barker.
The NZ Food Award winners will be announced at a gala dinner on Thursday, September 25th at the Langham Hotel, Auckland.
