Designertech marks 20 years of technological innovation
One of Auckland’s longest established IT companies, Designer Technology Ltd (Designertech), next week celebrates 20 years of innovation in serving some of New Zealand’s most iconic brands.
The company, which first won its reputation for innovation with the development of the MailMarshal and WebMarshal Internet security products, has evolved and thrived through turbulent and striking changes in the digital landscape.
Chief Executive of the New Zealand IT consulting and software development company, Ray Delany, said that in many ways the company’s unique approach has been forged by 20 years of rapid technological development.
“We have worked with the massive expansion of information technology in New Zealand and witnessed first-hand the changes affecting the small to medium business sector, including the move online by Kiwi businesses.”
Founded in 1994, the company experienced strong growth in the early years – even then taking a people centric approach to IT – and as a result the MailMarshal (2002) product grew out of the company's work with Mainfreight and others.
“The services we were providing to clients at that time, gave us the foundation for more sophisticated discussions around product, and we were able to go on and refine it with existing customers.”
Under current CEO Ray Delany the company has used the expertise and experience gained from these successes to refocus on a new vision for Designertech.
“It’s a vision based on product development and strong people focused service. This gave us new insights into customer needs and how we might be more creative in developing solutions specific to their unique problems and goals.”
The electronic visitor assistant – recently commissioned by another iconic international Kiwi brand for its unique ability to communicate in multiple Asian languages – and more bespoke product development, such as a sophisticated geo-mapping system for New Zealand’s largest catalogue distribution company, have since characterised the company’s successes.
Reachmedia uses the bespoke software to control distribution runs, including planning, graphic display and profiling the delivery routes and people on the ground that are responsible for those deliveries.
“Our recently launched Frank Consulting product is another evolution for the company, because it switches Designertech’s focus from a technology and people way of thinking to one of that is more business outcomes orientated.
“Frank is our ‘information management consulting division’, which was created to help companies identify the best strategic solutions for their business, in an age of complex technology and multiple solutions,” said Ray.
Designertech will celebrate its 20th anniversary at a function for the technology industry at the Q Theatre on Thursday 11 September this year.
