Building activity steady – Media release
3 September 2014
Building activity volume showed a small increase in the June 2014 quarter, Statistics New Zealand said today.
"Overall building activity volume increased 1.0 percent in the June 2014 quarter, following 15 percent growth last quarter," business indicators manager Neil Kelly said.
Non-residential building activity volume grew a seasonally adjusted 2.5 percent, and residential building activity was unchanged from last quarter.
"The trend for all building activity has been generally rising for nearly three years, and is just 0.7 percent lower than the series high in the June 2005 quarter," Mr Kelly said.
In current prices, the unadjusted value of all building activity in the June 2014 quarter was $3.8 billion, comprising $2.3 billion residential building work, and $1.4 billion non-residential building work.
Compared with the June 2013 quarter, building activity grew most in Auckland and Canterbury regions this quarter.
We are changing the way that we measure the value of building work put in place (WPIP).
