NZ Post profit shows no rationale for drastic job cuts
New Zealand Post Group’s $107 million profit shows the company is not in crisis and can afford to carefully consider any
future job losses, says the union representing NZ Post workers.
“Over the past year, Post has closed mailing processing centres and announced plans to cut over 2,000 jobs,” says Joe
Gallagher, EPMU industry organiser for NZ Post.
“The rationale has been that mail volumes are declining and the business needs to change drastically to survive. Today’s
announcement confirms that there is no immediate cause for concern.
“We want Post to take their time with any future restructures. Even though the industry is changing, New Zealand Post is
a vital public service. We want Post management to ensure the company is set up to be sustainable, and provide
full-time, meaningful employment to its workers.”
The EPMU represents over 3,000 New Zealand Post workers in delivery and mail processing.
