Federation of Maori Authorities National Conference 2014 a key event on the Maori business calendar.
The Federation of Maori Authorities National Conference 2014 is shaping up to be a key event for those involved in Maori
business. The conference will be held at the War Memorial Conference Centre in Whanganui from 26 – 28 of September.
An impressive line-up of conference presenters includes BERL Chief Economist Dr Ganesh Nana, Landcorp CEO Steven Carden
and Managing Partner of Chen Palmer Public and Employment Law Specialist Mai Chen. Chief Executive Te Horipo Karaitiana
says the conference is an opportunity to get an update and discuss significant issues that impact on our businesses.
“These include sustainable business practices, international and local co-investment opportunities and the current Te
Ture Whenua Maori Act review.”
The Ahuwhenua Trophy BNZ Maori Excellence in Farming Award 2015 for the Sheep and Beef Competition will be launched at the hui. Originally initiated in 1933 by Sir Apirana Ngata and
Lord Bledisloe the first competition was won by Bay of Plenty farmer William Swinton. Since then, the competition has
developed to include sheep and beef farming and the Young Maori Farmer of the Year Award which was introduced in 2012.
There will be a site visit to 2014 Ahuwhenua Trophy Award winner Te Rua o te Moko Ltd’s dairy operation in Hawera.
The Federation of Maori Authorities (FOMA) represents 150 organisations from 11 regions through-out the country and
represents members who have a collective asset base worth 8 billion dollars.
