All Blacks score not the only figure to soar at Eden Park
New statistics from Spark New Zealand show mobile data use soared during the Bledisloe Cup match on Saturday night. An increase in mobile data usage of 110-percent was seen in comparison with an All Blacks versus South Africa test match that took place at Eden Park in September last year.
The amount of 3G and 4G mobile data uploaded during the game was the equivalent of approximately 7,500 photos shared on Facebook.
Spark Chief Operating Officer David Havercroft said the growth in social media use during major events was phenomenal, with more and more New Zealanders wanting to share experiences with friends and family by posting and uploading photos or videos over platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
As in previous test matches, use of the Spark network peaked before the game, at half time, and then again after the full time whistle had gone, as Kiwis all over the country took to social media to celebrate the big win.
Mr Havercroft said that in light of these big peaks in mobile data use, he was pleased to see that – just like the All Blacks - the Spark network had performed well under pressure on the night.
“That’s a huge amount of traffic, but just like the boys in black we had our game plan worked out and so the network was performing at close to 100% throughout the game.”
