July 2014 Monthly traffic update
1.8%International passenger volumes (excluding transit passengers) were 1.8% higher in July 2014 than the previous year.
Growth was achieved across all regions, led by Pacific Island routes which were up 4.9% as a result of New Zealanders
travelling for winter holidays.x4Visitor arrivals from Indonesia in July 2014 were more than four times higher than last July (2,281 visitors compared to
536). Indonesian arrivals were boosted by visitors travelling during the Ramadan holiday period. This year Ramadan fell
in late-July compared with early-August in 2013.27.9%International passenger volumes at Queenstown Airport were 27.9% higher in July 2014 than the previous year. This is the
highest ever number of international passengers at Queenstown Airport in a single month. The passenger volumes were
driven by trans-Tasman ski season traffic. There were 33.9% more trans-Tasman flights in July 2014 than the previous
year, with significant capacity increases on Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne routes.34.2%Visitor arrivals from India were up 34.2% in July 2014 compared to the previous year. Recently we have seen impressive
growth from the Indian market with visitor arrivals to Auckland up 16.0% for the 12 month period ending July 2014. The
Indian Market represents a huge growth opportunity for New Zealand tourism and Auckland Airport’s Ambition 2025 strategy
targets 119,000 Indian arrivals by 2025, which is equivalent to a 12% annual growth rate.
