Cassels and Sons stoked – We’re all winners.
Cassels and Sons are pleased with the outcome of the Brewers Guild Awards 2014 where the craft brewery, based in Woolston Christchurch won a bronze and two silver medals for Dunkel, Extra Special
Bitter and American Pale Ale.
The international beer competition featured world leaders in the beer judging arena and local and international beers

Bronze winner Dunkel is the German word for ‘dark’ and is usually used to identify Bavaria’s old style of malty dark
lagers.
Silver winner ESB Pours as a perfect golden amber with apparent carbonation and a white head that subsides fairly
quickly.
The other silver winner was American Pale Ale, which has a fruity and aromatic taste.
Zak Cassels from Cassels and Sons attended the awards, “This is a great industry, friendly supportive and collaborative.
We were rapt that Richard Emerson was named an Honorary Fellow of the Guild – a man who has made a huge contribution.
But then the evening got even better when Martin Townshend from Nelson who runs an incredible one-man brewery was named
New Zealand’s champion brewer. We’ve always supported him and for us that was as good as winning ourselves.
“It is fantastic to be rated against 670 beers from 83 other breweries. We know we’re good and we’re passionate about
what we do. The fantastic vibe here of New Zealand’s best crafted and microbreweries makes the achievements even better.
The craft beer industry is a fantastic community and we’re proud to be part of it,” said Zak Cassels.
Zak is positive about future developments, “Well short term , we’ll be giving a special tasting opportunity of our
entries to customers as a celebration on our return, but medium and longer term we’ll keep getting better and we have a
couple of things in the pipeline, or vat, to come out with before next year,” he said.
