Joy Liddicoat elected Vice President

InternetNZ is pleased to announced Joy Liddicoat has been elected as Vice President. The Internet authority recently held a by-election to fill the vacancy left by the election of Jamie Baddeley to President.

InternetNZ Chief Executive Jordan Carter said that Joy will bring a wonderful passion and energy to the Council, having not been a member before.

“Jamie’s election to President shows what big shoes Joy has to fill. But we’re more than confident she is up for the task and we’re really excited at what she will bring to the table.”

Joy was thrilled with the result. “I’m delighted to be given this opportunity by InternetNZ members to contribute to Council, support President Jamie Baddeley and work for the objectives of InternetNZ”
President Jamie Baddeley was also pleased with Joy’s election to Vice President.

"InternetNZ was in a no-lose situation with this by-election. All of the candidates standing would have been excellent Vice Presidents. I've already reached out to Joy and we're already thinking about the direction we want to take InternetNZ over the coming 12 months.

I think the combination of both Joy and me brings a special balance to the leadership of Council - something that I was keen to have and I'm so pleased the members have been wise to select her.”

The Vice President of InternetNZ supports the President and the Council in maintaining the effective governance of the organisation. InternetNZ is a helping hand, a guide and a voice for the Internet and its users in New Zealand with a vision of a better world through a better Internet.

Joy Liddicoat is a Wellington based lawyer working for a global organisation, the Association for Progressive Communication (www.apc.org). She joined APC in March, 2011, having been a public law specialist and a New Zealand Human Rights Commissioner from 2002 and 2010. Joy has worked in government, civil society, the private sector and in United Nations fora. Joy has extensive experience in community leadership both in New Zealand and overseas. Joy has been board member of the Domain Name Commission Limited since 2007. Joy also participates in the Non Commercial Users Constituency of ICANN and was an elected Generic Name Supporting Organisation Council member from 2011-2013.
