New Zealand’s #1 Radio Station is Now New Zealand’s #1 Music Television Channel
The Edge TV has gone straight to the top of the charts. The first audience numbers for MediaWorks’ newest TV channel show 1.2 million viewers tuned in to The Edge TV in the past month (5+ cume), making it the #1 music television channel in the market, with a 35% margin on its nearest competitor.*
The Edge TV also outperformed MediaWorks’ previous music television channel, C4 attracting 43% more viewers than the 842,300 who tuned into C4 in its final month on air.
The Edge TV is a spin-off of radio brand The Edge; winners of the 2014 Station of the Year, and the #1 radio network in the country, with 454,400 people tuning in each week.# Theedge.co.nz is also NZ’s #1 radio website with 1.2 million average monthly unique browsers.^
Launched on June 27, The Edge TV broadcasts 24/7 on Freeview channel 11 and SKY channel 114. It is also the first local music channel available to watch LIVE on mobile phones, tablets and online at theedge.co.nz.
The Edge Programme Director, Leon Wratt says: “When we announced The Edge TV, we said the channel would give The Edge the potential to reach a million people every week across radio, TV and digital platforms. To reach 1.2 million people in the first month through the TV channel alone is outstanding, and has blown our expectations for launch right out of the water.
“For a radio station to launch a TV channel is a New Zealand first, and a huge project to pull off. There’s no question our competitive advantage is the brilliant team at The Edge. We have the best on-air talent in the business, and an amazing team behind the scenes - from content, programming and channel branding, to sales, marketing and the technical expertise that has ensured the channel is available to viewers on their device of choice.
“Thanks also to our friends at MediaWorks TV, and a special mention to The Edge TV sales team, who achieved 365% of revenue targets for the first month on air.”
Director of Network Sales and The Edge TV, Matt Headland says: “Following on from a successful cross platform launch campaign with Pizza Hut, The Edge TV is continuing to grow its client base. We’re working with existing radio clients to further extend their campaigns and also seeing a lot of new business generated from our ability to create truly bespoke activity for our television audience.”
