Dishwashers: Bosch Tops the Field to Claim Three in a Row

Dishwashers: Bosch Tops the Field to Claim Three in a Row

More than three quarters of women believe they are the best at loading the dishwasher

Auckland, 13 August, 2014- Aucklanders are most likely to shirk emptying the dishwasher according to a recent nationwide survey by Canstar Blue.

Women (58%) are the most likely to notice a lack of help with the dishwasher, compared to men (43%), and more than three quarters (77%) of women believe that they are the most efficient at loading the dishwasher in their household.

“Nearly one in three New Zealand dishwasher owners are concerned about their machine’s water usage, but anxiety levels are the highest in Auckland, where half of respondents are concerned about how much water their dishwasher actually uses,” says Canstar New Zealand General Manager, Derek Bonnar.

Despite water woes, 75% of dishwasher owners in the City of Sails still rinse their dishes before putting them in the dishwasher.

“Today’s dishwashers and detergents are designed to attack food particles left on dishes, therefore pre-rinsing is not only unnecessary; it also wastes water, power and time,” says Bonnar.

Generation Ys are the most likely to prefer to wash their dishes by hand (33%) even if they have a dishwasher at home, compared to 10% of baby boomers.

More than 20 per cent of those surveyed purchased an extended warranty when buying their dishwasher, with Gen Ys (35%) and Gen Xs (34%) most likely to spend to have the perceived security of an extended warranty.

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs recommends that before buying an extended warranty, consumers should consider whether they really need one.

Bonnar says for private purchasers**, The Consumer Guarantees Act already provides certain rights, including the right to expect that the item purchased will last a reasonable period of time.

“The Ministry of Consumer Affairs offers the following advice: ‘Consumers should consider how long they expect the item to last, and if it is the same or longer than the extended warranty then protection should be provided by the Consumer Guarantees Act’,” says Bonnar.

New Fair Trading Act legislation relating to extended warranties has been in place since 17 June. There are now strict guidelines for retailers and the information that must provide at the time of purchase. For more information, visit the Commerce Commission’s website.

For items bought for business use, the Consumer Guarantees Act doesn’t apply.

Bosch has come out on top in the overall satisfaction category for the third year in a row, ahead of LG, Westinghouse, Simpson, Haier and Fisher & Paykel.

“Bosch achieved top ratings in nearly measure of performance. The brand has performed very well for consumers over the past three years.”

The survey measured customer satisfaction across nine categories, with respondents who have purchased and used a dishwasher in the last three years:

1. Value for money

2. Performance(cleans well)

3. Reliability

4. Quietness while operating

5. Internal layout of the drawers

6. Ease of use

7. Warranty and service

8. Design( incl. appearance/finish of dishwasher)

9. Overall satisfaction

Performance Comes Out Tops

For the first time Canstar Blue asked respondents to rank the importance of each of these factors in terms of their contribution to overall satisfaction. Customers ranked their dishwashers’ performance, reliability and ease of use, as the top three most important factors, with performance ranked the top attribute by a clear margin.
