Mitre 10 calls for nominations for Community of the Year
New Zealand’s leading home improvement company Mitre 10 is encouraging Kiwis to nominate community organisations for the
sixth annual Community of the Year Award.
The award is part of the prestigious Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year Awards 2015, which recognise individuals who
have inspired their fellow Kiwis by making an outstanding contribution to our country.
The Community of the Year Award, sponsored by Mitre 10, provides an opportunity for regional or national community
groups and organisations to also be recognised for their achievements and contributions to New Zealand.
Mitre 10 CEO Neil Cowie encouraged New Zealanders to take an active part in ensuring community groups get recognised, by
nominating them for the Community of the Year Award.
“As a Kiwi-owned and operated co-operative, we believe it’s important to recognise these groups as their efforts make
our communities stronger, more vibrant, and promote true community spirit for this and generations to come,” Mr Cowie
said.
Last year’s winner Victim Support was applauded for its role in helping with the immediate needs of victims of crime and
trauma, providing support and front-line services, as well as its assistance in civil defence emergencies and search and
rescue events. Victim Support empowers victims to regain control of their lives through support, advice and information.
To nominate a community group or organisation you believe needs to be recognised, go to http://nzawards.org.nz/nominate/nomination-form2/. Nominations are processed and shortlisted by category judges, and close on September 30, 2014. Any member of the
public may make a nomination. Winners will be announced at a gala presentation on February 25, 2015.
