Wellington venues judged as finalists in national hospitality awards
Eight Wellington hospitality businesses have has been selected as finalists in this year’s Hospitality New Zealand Awards for Excellence. The eight Wellington finalists are:
- James Cook Grand Chancellor – finalist in Best Environmental, Sustainable and Ethical Practice.
- St Johns – finalist in Excellence in Host Responsibility, Excellence in Training and Staff Development and in Best Bar.
- El Horno – finalist in Excellence in Host Responsibility.
- Portlander Restaurant – finalist in Best Restaurant.
- The Tote & Furnace – finalist in Best TAB Venue.
- Rydges Hotel – finalist in Best Accommodation Hotel and in Excellence in Marketing.
- West Plaza Hotel – finalist in Best Accommodation Hotel.
- Vinyl Bar – finalist in Best Redeveloped Bar/Restaurant.
Hospitality New Zealand chief executive officer Bruce Robertson said the common theme all eight finalists shared, was the outstanding levels of service and professionalism they each displayed - along with the passion and enthusiasm embodied by their respective owners and operators.
"The eight Wellington finalists epitomise the crème-de-la-crème of New Zealand’s hospitality industry across all its guises - and was selected after a comprehensive and thorough judging process," Mr Robertson said.
"The standard and quality among these finalists sets them apart from their competitors in the marketplace, and any of the finalists would make worthy winners. They are a proud reflection of where the cutting edge of New Zealand’s hospitality industry is moving – delivering consumers service standards which are the equal of anywhere in the world."
The Hospitality New Zealand Awards for Excellence encompass 15 categories featuring all sectors of the industry – from country pubs, gaming operations and five star hotels, through to bars, restaurants, and cafes.
The Hospitality New Zealand Awards for Excellence are judged over a seven week period by a panel of independent industry professionals who assess every competitor on a range of commercial and operational criteria – including staff training and human resources, customer service, marketing and promotional activities, and the demonstration of business growth.
Winners at Hospitality New Zealand Awards for Excellence will be announced at the organisation’s national conference being held in Rotorua on September 17/18.
