Kiwis want 40% less office gossip at work
Office gossip is the number one workplace frustration according to a new survey that asked Kiwis what they would like
40% less of.
The Freya’s Reduce by 40% Survey also revealed that employees would like to see a 40% reduction in emails and meetings.
The survey, which asked respondents to choose from a number of options, was conducted in conjunction with the launch of
Freya’s 40% Lower Carb range, as a fun way to discover what else Kiwis would like 40% less of in their day to day lives,
said Freya’s Brand Manager Eugene Rush.
“Everything from politicians and pop stars, to household bills and workplace frustrations were surveyed, and the results
showed Kiwis are keen for a change in a number of areas!” he said.
Kim Dotcom’s domination of news headlines may be beginning to annoy Kiwis, with one in five Kiwis selecting him as the
option for 40% less coverage in the news.
From the list of which celebrities they would like to see less of in the media, Kiwis emphatically voted out The
Kardashian Family.
Kim, Kourtney, Khloe and the rest of the clan are out of favour with the New Zealand public, with more than a third of
Kiwis (35%) wanting fewer column inches spent on the reality TV family.
The survey also revealed the tide had turned on tween pop star Justin Bieber. Almost one in five (19%) Kiwis opted to
see less of The Biebs in our newspapers, while 12% of Kiwis chose Miley Cyrus, and just 6% would like to see less of
Sally and Jamie Ridge.
At home, most Kiwis want to reduce their grocery bill (47%), their electricity bill (25%) and petrol costs (18%), while
one in 10 want their rates reduced by 40%. Interestingly, this changes through the age groups. While 19 to 29-year-olds
are likely to be concerned with lowering their petrol bill, New Zealanders in their 40s and 50s are more likely to be
concerned with their council rates and grocery bills.
And with just two months to go before the general election, Kiwis are perhaps beginning to tire of politics too. From
the options listed, a quarter of New Zealanders said they wanted less of John Key in their daily news, while another 18%
would like a reduction in media coverage of Winston Peters, 17% want to read less about David Cunliffe, and 17% would
happily hear less about Len Brown.
The survey also proved Freya’s was on to a good thing with their new range of lower carb breads, said Rush.
“When it came to their diet, Kiwi’s said they wanted fewer carbs. More than a quarter of New Zealanders said they would
love to reduce their intake of carbohydrates by 40%,” he added.
More than 500 New Zealanders took part in the survey, which was conducted online during the month of July, 2014.
