Seafood New Zealand Welcomes Foreign Charter Vessel resolution

Seafood New Zealand says the passage of the Foreign Charter Vessel Bill through Parliament today enables the seafood industry to move into a new era.

Chief Executive Tim Pankhurst says the industry supports New Zealand flagged vessels treating their crews fairly as specified in the new Act.

“Reflagging is now the law. The issues are now historical. The deepwater fishery is in good heart, our stocks are sustainable and we look to maximise our opportunities in international markets with this long running distraction removed,” he says.
