Kiwi at helm of Caribbean’s Club Med Turkoise
Auckland, 30 July 2014 – One of Club Med’s most spectacular resort settings is Club Med Turkoise in the Turks and Caicos in the Caribbean with New Zealand born Michael Clarke at the helm.
Auckland born Michael is the Chef de Village – General Manager – at the resort which stretches along the calm, clear turquoise waters of Grace Bay. A favoured haunt of pirates in bygone days the eight islands that make up the Turks and Caicos are a dream destination for divers.
Michael has a lot of family in New Zealand and enjoys returning to visit his grandparents at Mt Maunganui, and of course he highly recommends Club Med for a holiday – and not just Club Med Turkoise.
“If you’re a golfer Bintan is amazing… if you want to explore and sightsee go to Bali and if you want a mix of everything go to Phuket… for the romantics Kani in the Maldives is heaven and for skiiers Sahoro in Japan has some of the best powder snow in the world. Also if you love rugby you’ll easily find a bar to watch games,” he says.
“All the Kiwis I’ve met have been very impressed by the concept of Club Med and I look forward to hosting you in a resort soon.”
Michael has worked for Club Med for 10 years after being inspired by a holiday at a former Club Med, Lindeman Island. “I loved the unique and fun attitude of the resort staff, and the opportunity working for Club Med offered, of travelling the world and gaining life experience.”
Michael started his career as a golf instructor at Club Med Cherating Beach in Malaysia before moving onto various instructor and management roles at eight Club Med resorts worldwide, including Kabira Beach in Japan, Columbus Isle in the Bahamas, Marrakech in Morocco and Bintan Island in Indonesia. Now in his current Chef de Village role he heads a team of more than 1,500 staff of 20 different nationalities.
“The favourite part of my job is ensuring everyone has an amazing Club Med and holiday and I love welcoming back returning guests,” he says.
One of the key roles of the Chef de Village is to oversee the Club Med philosophy which is about creating special memories in a premium all-inclusive environment through delicious food, fun activities, relaxation, disccovery and entertainment.
