Chamber surprised at Basin Reserve flyover decision

The Wellington Employers’ Chamber of Commerce is surprised and disappointed by the draft decision of the board of inquiry to decline resource consents for the Basin Reserve flyover.

“It’s safe to say I’m disappointed by this decision,” says President John Milford.

“This was only ever about making vital improvements to a section of the city’s and the region’s transport infrastructure to ensure on-going economic development.

“The Chamber has said all along that the Basin Reserve is a major congestion point on the road which links the region and the city to the airport, and has to be fixed.

“Separating north-west traffic from north-south traffic around the Basin is essential if we are to progress.

“This decision is a serious setback to achieving that.

“We wait to hear what the next steps are, as the problems identified aren’t going to go away.”
