New Zealand’s largest permanent cruise ship docks in Auckland
New Zealand’s largest permanently-based cruise ship, Hauraki Blue Cruises, opens for business in Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour today.
The Ipipiri vessel arrived in Auckland from the Bay of Islands in mid-June and has since been rebranded and is going through a refurbishment. It begins cruising the Auckland Harbour and Hauraki Gulf from 4th September, 2014.
Hauraki Blue Cruises is part of the InterCity Group and CEO John Thorburn says, “Hauraki Blue Cruises is the ultimate floating venue to showcase the sights of the stunning Hauraki Gulf for locals and visitors alike. Designed for comfort and effortless cruising, the catamaran boasts an onboard team who are passionate about creating unique, relaxing and idyllic mini breaks and events with the wow factor.”
Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) Manager for Tourism, Jason Hill says Hauraki Blue Cruises is a significant offering in Auckland’s growing tourism market, “It’s an exciting new experience for visitors to Auckland. We expect strong demand from domestic and international visitors as it provides a unique and easily accessible way to view our stunning harbour”.
