Waikato District Council - business case for water CCO

14 July 2014

Waikato District Council supports business case for water CCO

Waikato District Council has given its support to proceed with a business case around the future management of water and wastewater services.

In April, the Waikato Mayoral Forum commissioned an independent report which recommended a detailed business case and analysis be carried out to establish the value of a Council Controlled Organisation to operate water and wastewater services across the sub region.

At today’s meeting, Councillors agreed to go ahead with the business case which would include investigation of a CCO, an Enhanced Shared Services model as well as the option to consider expanding the current agreement with Auckland City Council’s CCO Watercare Services Ltd.

Hamilton City and Waipa District Councils have both committed to proceeding with the business case and analysis, however all three councils needed to agree for the study to get underway.
