Aratere resumes passenger sailings
The Aratere resumed passenger sailings today.
The 1445 sailing from Wellington had 160 passengers booked, and the return voyage at 1845 from Picton has 105.
Her next sailing will be at 0645 tomorrow.
Interislander GM Thomas Davis said that this was still an important assessment period for the vessel.
“We’ll be monitoring her speed and handling characteristics carefully over the next week or so. We expect there to be some differences. We had to put her original propellers back on a longer ship, and crew will need to consider how to manage ballast to optimise the ship’s trim,” he says.
Aratere returned to New Zealand on July 1st and late last week was given Classification Society and Maritime New Zealand sign off to resume commercial sailings. Freight only sailings were made during the weekend.
