Hill Laboratories appoints new South Island Manager
New Zealand's leading analytical testing laboratory, Hill Laboratories, has appointed Kevin Taylor as the company’s new South Island Manager.
Mr Taylor brings to Hill Laboratories’ Christchurch-based laboratory more than two decades of local experience in the medical laboratory, quality management, and operations management fields.
The Christchurch-based laboratory is the base for South Island testing and is the main site for microbiological food testing. Environmental and agricultural testing is also undertaken at the Christchurch site.
Mr Taylor completed a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLSc) at Otago University in 1994 and was soon awarded the Associate Professor Colin Watts memorial prize for the top graduate in his degree.
He has since completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science (PGDipMLSc) at Otago University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business and Administration (PGDipBusAdmin) majoring in management at Massey University.
He began his professional career as a medical laboratory scientist in the haematology department at Christchurch’s Med Lab South in 1994, where he stayed for five years before moving to Canterbury Health Laboratories.
At Canterbury Health Laboratories Mr Taylor worked closely with clinical staff from DHBs and private laboratories throughout New Zealand to design, research, and set up new testing practices.
Swiftly adding management experience to his scientific background, Mr Taylor was appointed into operational, quality, business development, and innovation roles at Canterbury Health Laboratories between 2007 and 2013.
As South Island Manager for Hill Laboratories, Mr Taylor will oversee the operational management of Hill Laboratories’ two South Island Labs in Christchurch and Blenheim.
”Hill Laboratories is a dynamic company with a long standing reputation. I am looking forward to working for an organisation that continually pursues high quality testing, imparts analytical expertise, and grasps opportunities,” said Mr Taylor.
The company’s Blenheim laboratory is the organisation’s key site for wine and juice testing, and water and shellfish testing for the upper South Island.
Hill Laboratories managing director and founder Dr Roger Hill said Mr Taylor’s mix of scientific and management experience will complement the existing executive management team perfectly.
“He brings skills and experience that will help Hill Laboratories continue to provide leading analytical laboratory services for our customers,” Dr Hill said.
Hill Laboratories is a 100 per cent privately owned New Zealand analytical testing laboratory and has three major testing areas: Agriculture, Environmental and Food.
With its main site in Hamilton, the company currently has four sites in the North Island, two in the South Island, and an office in Japan.
Mr Taylor began his role in June 2014.
