Northpower Limited Media Statement
Date: July 9, 2014 – 3.25pm
Subject: Northpower Storm update #10
Just 200 Northpower customers are now without power – down from a peak of 14,000.
Most of those are in pockets of the West Coast (Kaipara District) – Aranga included.
22 customers at Paerata Road in Tangiteroria and 28 customers at Telfer and Waiparera Roads, Parua Bay, remain without
power.
Northpower Network General Manager Graham Dawson says crews have worked diligently to restore power as quickly as
possible.
“But I recognise some people are still inconvenienced and we are genuinely sorry for that. We are doing our best and
hope to make more progresstomorrow – our crews have been working very hard in some very difficult conditions,” says Mr
Dawson.
“We also appreciate the help members of the public have given us by phoning in faults to our 0800-10-40-40 line. We need
them to keep doing so.”
“Now our workload is lightening up, where possible, we are aiming to free up resources to help out, if required, out our
friends in the Far North – Top Energy.”
Mr Dawson says flooding and high winds continue to prevent some repairs being undertaken and wants people to remain well
clear of downed powerlines.
“Ongoing storm conditions could create more outages so our numbers could jump back up over the next day or two. Or
course we are hoping for better news.”
People those in need of medical assistance should phone 111 immediately.
If anyone know of someone without power (who may also be without phone lines or cellphone reception), Northpower is
happy to be advised.
