Think Bomb Alaska, Think Black Russian

Think Bomb Alaska, Think Black Russian

July 9, 2014.

New Zealand might be enjoying the 21st century but Bay Of Many Coves in the Marlborough Sounds is turning the clock back to the good times.

The 5-star luxury lodge, a finalist in last month’s Global Travel Experience Awards, is hosting The Music And Good Times of the ‘60s and ‘70s with California Dreamers from August 1 to 3.

California Dreamers, New Zealand’s leading nostalgia showband, relives the ‘60s and ‘70s as they pay tribute to such immortal artists as The Mama And the Papas, Bob Dylan, Peter, Paul and Mary, The Fifth Dimension and many more.

California Dreamers have performed with distinction on TV One’s Good Morning and make regular appearances at Sky City in Auckland. Now, in the intimate setting of Bay Of Many Coves, they’ll develop a unique relationship with their audience through their repertoire of uplifting, heartwarming songs.

In addition to the swinging ‘60s music, California Dreamers are a visual band. They wear the psychedelic costumes of the era and encourage guests to dress and dance in the same groovy way.

Co-Owner of Bay Of Many Coves, Murray McCaw, predicts the August 1-3 experience will be the ultimate nostalgia trip with feel-good songs in a feel-good setting over a feel-good weekend.

He explains the luxury lodge, nestling in the pristine waters of the Marlborough Sounds, will provide a nostalgia filled menu to match the love-fest atmosphere of the 1960s.

“We’ll be giving our guests some of their favourite dishes and cocktails from the past with a thoroughly modern twist,” Murray says. He reminds people to think Bomb Alaska, think fondue and think retro-style cocktails such as Harvey Wallbanger and Black Russian.

Executive Chef, Hannes Barieter, will prepare a seven course decadent degustation dinner on theFriday night and match it with a Saturday night special retro dinner kicked off with an iconic Harvey Wallbanger cocktail.

“Our previous good times weekends have been a blast with people joining the fun and reigniting their memories of two incredible decades and the songs that changed the world,” Murray says.

“There’ll be a prize for the person who comes dressed as their favourite ‘60s personality.”

However there’s still the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of one of the world’s most private and secluded lodges. Guests can walk in the private native bush reserve, kayak in the bay or simply relax in their apartment and enjoy the stillness and serenity of the location.

Prices for The Music and Good Times of the ‘60s and ‘70s with California Dreamers start from $950 per person.
