Far North power outages – Update #2
As at 1700hrs today approximately 9,600 Far North households are without power following the severe storm experienced across the region. Most impacted properties are in Awanui, Kaikohe, Kaitaia, Opononi, Purerua, Pukenui South, Rawene, Russell, Taipa, Te Kao, Totara North and Whangaroa.
Top Energy estimates that approximately 1,100 households will be without power overnight. Most of these will be in the areas of Henderson Bay, Houhora, Houhora Heads, Hukatere, Kaimaumau, Kaitaia, Kauri Flat, Motutangi, Ngataki, Paparore, Paua, Pukenui, Pukepoto, Te Hapua, Te Kao, Te Paki, Thoms Landing, Waiharara, Waihopo, and Waitiki Landing. At this stage Top Energy expects to be able to reconnect these properties by dark tomorrow.
Top Energy is reassuring those who continue to experience a power outage that the company is aware of all the main lines that still need to be repaired and will send crews to these sites as soon as possible.
Top Energy has had repair crews working all day. They attended to damage to main feeder lines first, followed by smaller lines and individual ‘no power’ faults.
Emergency fault crews will be available overnight but repair work will only be done where it is safe and practical to do so.
Lines to some individual homes may have been damaged. If any householders remain without power after noon tomorrow (Wednesday) they should contact the Top Energy call centre on 0800 867363.
Top Energy is asking members of the public to remain clear of downed powerlines at all times, to keep other people clear and also to keep animals away.
