The Hawke’s Bay Regional Signature Dish is a culinary event that has been run successfully by Food Hawke’s Bay for the past seven years. The event, held in September, has received fantastic support over the years, from generous sponsors, participating establishments and the dining public. The event has always achieved its purpose – to showcase the wonderful produce grown here, and to highlight the talented chefs we have in Hawke’s Bay.
The introduction of the Summer and Winter FAWC! events have provided an additional platform for chefs and wineries to cross-promote and show their creativity. After consultation with hospitality representatives, it was felt the timing of Signature Dish so soon after Winter FAWC! puts pressure not only chefs and service staff, but also the paying public as they endeavour to support the many dining offers. With this in mind, the Food Hawke’s Bay Board has decided to postpone this year’s event.
Food Hawke’s Bay Manager, Patricia Small said “We believe Signature Dish has a place in Hawke’s Bay’s culinary event calendar, but will review the timing of the event, and after seven years consider making some changes to the format to ensure the event’s longevity”.
“We anticipate some people will be disappointed with the postponement but we would rather spend time working with the local hospitality industry to provide a revitalised event that will fulfill the needs of all establishments from cafes to fine dining. We want the event to capture the imagination and interest of chefs and the supportive dining public”.
