Public service glad to help revitalise Christchurch CBD
The Public Service Association (PSA) is welcoming the announcement that public sector workers will be returning to the
Christchurch CBD and helping to provide a much-needed customer base to help kick-start central city business.
Glenn Barclay, PSA Acting National Secretary, said “Central Christchurch needs people to return so it can thrive, and
public servants are glad to help revitalise the city they love,”
“Some of our members will be looking forward to the move, having been working from unsuitable locations since the
earthquakes.
“The benefits of moving must be clear so that other public servants, who have already settled into post-quake
accommodation, understand why they are expected to move again.
“It is important that new buildings are fit-for-purpose, and can serve as an exemplar of good office design practice.
“New buildings, if designed well, can support PSA members to deliver the vital public services that Christchurch
residents need.
“We look forward to working alongside the Government to ensure appropriate decisions around issues such as parking,
ensuring enough room, security and more.
“Public servants have played a key role in supporting their fellow Cantabrians during the post-quake period, and this is
a logical next step in the evolution of the new Christchurch,” said Glenn Barclay.
