Holidaymakers capture their own Shotover Jet footage via head-mounted cameras
Queenstown tourism giant Shotover Jet is embracing technological advances enabling holidaymakers to capture their own jet boating experience on camera for the first time.
Based on client demand and feedback the company now allows hands free cameras on the ‘Big Reds’ providing they are securely mounted on the front of the users’ head and are pre-set before the trip.
Specialist GoPro forehead mounts are available for rent or purchase from the retail store or customers can bring their own and each mount is checked by a staff member before boarding.
Shotover Jet General Manager Clark Scott said the number of people owning cameras, especially the infamous GoPros, was at an all-time high and customers had been requesting the service “for months”.
“Safety is of the utmost importance to us and we want to ensure people hold on tight at all times and enjoy their Shotover Jet experience fully. Now with the invention of head mounts we’re satisfied passengers can safely wear hands free cameras and capture their own intimate experience,” he said.
“We’ve chosen the forehead mount as it’s safe and also won’t interfere with other passengers’ experience. It’s completely unobtrusive.”
“We’ve had a recent and sudden increase in people asking to take cameras on board so it made sense to give our customers what they ask for.”
“We anticipate passengers will load their videos to the numerous social media channels. It’s great to be able to capture your own experience on camera then show people back home the ‘birds eye’ view’ of being in a jet boat.
“While we will continue to film trips from the front-mounted boat camera and offer people comprehensive photo and video packs, enabling them to film themselves adds something a little different to the trip.”
“It’s certainly the way of the future and we’re always looking at ways of making the experience more fun and interactive,” said Mr Scott.
