Enable ramps up fibre broadband deployment in response to consumer demand
Fibre network provider, Enable has today announced its network build programme for the next year– with 26,000 more customers in businesses, schools and homes across Christchurch to receive access to fibre broadband by July 2015. This plan sees Enable increase its network deployment rate by at least 30 percent against last year.
“By mid-2015, over 80,000 potential customers across greater Christchurch will be able to access fibre broadband services over Enable’s network. We will have delivered nearly half our total network deployment,” said Enable CEO, Steve Fuller.
“The people of greater Christchurch have made it clear that they are ready and waiting to connect to fibre broadband, and we are responding with a more aggressive deployment programme.”
In the past twelve months Enable has received more than 4,200 fibre broadband orders – compared with 1,454 total customers at 30 June 2013.
“It’s been a remarkable year in terms of uptake. A year ago a record orders month for Enable was 100; now it is 750. We are about to pass 10 percent uptake across our network and in some areas we are enjoying 20 plus percent,” said Mr Fuller.
Word of mouth within the community about just how much better fibre broadband is combined with a better understanding that there is usually no additional cost is driving people to make the switch to fibre.
“The deployment programme we have announced today is a direct response to our local community embracing fibre broadband at one of the fastest uptake rates nationwide,” added Mr Fuller.
“We will be deploying network to schools, business areas and thousands of homes spread right across the city – from Templeton to New Brighton.”
The areas where Enable will be extending its coverage over the coming year include:
Large areas in Riccarton, Sockburn, Ilam and Fendalton;
More of Sydenham, Addington, Middleton, Wigram and Hornby;
Parts of Templeton;
More of Burnside, Strowan, Merivale, St Albans, Edgeware, Shirley and Richmond;
Parts of Avonside, Linwood, Bromley, Waltham and Woolston;
More of Wainoni, Aranui and New Brighton;
Parts of Burwood and Parklands;
Some streets in Somerfield and Beckenham; and
North-east parts of the central city.
Today, Enable’s fibre broadband services are available to just over 52,000 homes and businesses. Coverage includes all of Halswell, Rolleston and Lincoln. Services are also available in large parts of Papanui, Bishopdale, Bryndwr, Burnside, Northcote, Redwood, Belfast, Spreydon, Edgeware, Shirley, Richmond, Dallington, Avondale, Wainoni, Aranui, and North New Brighton – as well as in over 80 percent of other commercial parts of the city. Enable is about to launch its services to large parts of Rangiora and Kaiapoi.
Enable recommends people visit enable.net.nz to see if their home or business can get fibre broadband today or will be covered in the next year.
