Telecom’s New 4g Network Gets a Work Out
Telecom’s New 4g Network Gets a Work Out at Queenstown Winter Festival
Telecom is now delivering faster
mobile connectivity to Queenstown and Wanaka residents and
businesses, with its 4G network now live in the Queenstown
Lakes region. The 4G network launched just in time for the
Queenstown Winter Festival, and Telecom expects to a see
significant increase in mobile data traffic over the week.
Telecom Retail COO Jason Paris said that the company is already seeing signs that the mobile network is getting a workout by festival-goers, with a 40% increase in mobile uploads and 60% increase in text messages over the opening weekend, when compared with the previous weekend.
“Smart devices are changing the way our customers experience and take part in events such as the Winter Festival – smartphones are now being used for far more than just texting and calling. Access to fast data speeds on our 3G and 4G mobile networks allows customers to source information on the go using a range of business apps and upload videos and photos over social media sites to share with friends and family.”
The 4G network strengthens the high-quality mobile experience customers already receive through Telecom’s national WiFi and 3G networks.
“If you’re a Telecom customer living or visiting winter hot spots like Queenstown and Wanaka and you have a 4G-capable phone, you’re likely to see increased speed when you’re in our new 4G area,” says Mr Paris
Mr Paris says that so far Telecom customers regularly using the 4G network had not dramatically increased their data consumption. However, anyone concerned about going over their data allowance could track their usage over the MyTelecom portal or Telecom’s smartphone app, or set up a data cap to stop them using any further data after their allowance ran out. They could also use the smartphone app to top up their account or save their precious mobile data by using Telecom’s many WiFi hot spots in the region.
Telecom will switch on its 4G network in Arrowtown in the coming weeks.
