Air New Zealand supports National Air Navigation and Airspace Plan
Air New Zealand welcomes the launch today of a National Air Navigation and Airspace Plan to enhance the efficiency of
aircraft operating in New Zealand airspace.
The plan aims to modernise a number of aviation navigation systems and procedures by moving away from traditional
ground-based navigation to more extensive use of satellites.
“The development of a national plan to manage air navigation in New Zealand is great news for our industry. It will not
only allow for more efficient operation of aircraft in New Zealand airspace but ensure the country keeps pace with
modern airspace management methods offshore,” says Air New Zealand Chief Flight Operations and Safety Officer Captain
Morgan.
The development of industrywide plans to manage airspace has become a global movement led by the International Civil
Aviation Organisation (ICAO) with similar plans having commenced introduction in Australia, the United States and
Europe.
