LexisNexis ® celebrates a milestone of 100 years in New Zealand
AUCKLAND, June 16, 2014 – In June 2014, LexisNexis® celebrates a milestone of 100 years in New Zealand. Starting in
1914, LexisNexis® Butterworths® opened its first New Zealand office in Wellington.
LexisNexis® New Zealand, as part of Reed Elsevier, is an iconic leader in legal publishing and software solutions with
landmark achievements over its rich, hundred year history which have seen it transcend traditional print to provide
technology and multi-format content in line with the changing legal industry’s needs.
Over the last century, LexisNexis® has grown to provide customers with access to over one hundred thousand searchable
New Zealand cases and more than 350 hardcopy, loose-leaf and digital titles. The evolution of both the legal industry
and legal publishing is remarkable and did not come without its challenges.
“LexisNexis’® evolution and indeed success has always been driven by marrying innovation, quality content and customer
needs. The challenge is to meet present needs and technology while anticipating what the future will look like,” said
Rachel Travers, Executive Director LexisNexis® New Zealand.
“Who could have anticipated within two years of Apple’s 2010 iPad launch, that we could have launched LexisNexis Red®,
bringing many bookshelves of Loose-leaf titles to the compact and mobile iPad”
The legal industry will continue to evolve and legal solution providers such as LexisNexis® strive, not just to keep up,
but to lead the change by developing innovative and disruptive technologies to bring to market that will allow lawyers
to work in a way in which their clients would also want them to operate.
“At the end of the day legal information is just a tool; it’s just what’s in the bucket. The issue is, knowing what to
do with the bucket and which information to access, when. The great thing I love is that all of this legal information
allows you to be creative, creative to be the best possible advocate you can be,” said Mai Chen, founding Partner of
Chen Palmer and Author of Public Law Toolbox and Transforming Auckland: The Creation of Auckland Council as well as LexisNexis Practical Guidance Employment Law for Business.
LexisNexis® Pacific COO Dr Marc K Peter is confident that the company will continue to provide value to customers over
the next 100 years, ‘In alignment with the evolution of law, we’re introducing new technology solutions that provide
content in context. This will enable legal and non-legal professionals alike to discover efficiencies, seize
opportunities and access information in ways not possible in the past.”
