Shareholders Send Strong Message to Dissidents at Abano Special Meeting
Abano’s shareholders voted in record numbers at today’s special meeting, sending a resounding message to dissident shareholders, Peter Hutson and James Reeves, that they support the Company’s chairman and strategy.
Over 82.5% of Abano’s shares were voted at the meeting, with more than triple the numbers of shareholders voting than any previous meeting in the last six years.
An overwhelming majority of votes, being 76.64% of votes, were against the resolution put forward by Mr Hutson and Mr Reeves to remove Trevor Janes as a Director of Abano.
Mr Hutson and Mr Reeves received the support of less than one percent of Abano’s other shareholders for their resolution. Excluding shareholdings associated with Mr Hutson and Mr Reeves, there were 0.79% of votes for the resolution. Including their associated shareholdings, there was 23.36% of votes for the resolution.
The majority of retail shareholders voted against the resolution at the meeting, as did the New Zealand Shareholders Association and all institutional shareholders who voted.
The Directors hope that the clear message sent to Mr Hutson and Mr Reeves by the majority of shareholders will encourage them to halt their disruptive campaign and engage constructively with the Abano Board.
Following the Special Meeting, the results of the poll were scrutinised by PricewaterhouseCoopers and are as follows:
