ACC levy consultation – it’s easier than ever to have your say
ACC is currently in the midst of its annual, public levy consultation process, and Chair Paula Rebstock wants Kiwis to
know that “it’s never been easier to have your say about levies”.
“This year, we’ve set up an online submission form. All you have to do is go to the form on the ACC website, type in
your feedback and contact details, then click send.”
Ms Rebstock says everyone in New Zealand is entitled to have their say about ACC’s proposed levies for the coming year,
or share their views about any aspect of the ACC scheme.
“All submissions are considered carefully, and many ideas received during consultation have become reality.”
This year, ACC has proposed across the board levy cuts in 2015.
Ms Rebstock says the cuts are possible because the ACC scheme is now fully funded.
“Ever since 1999, when ACC shifted to a fully funded model, levies have reflected the need to build up our assets, so
that we have enough funds invested to meet the anticipated lifetime costs of all existing claims.
“We’ve now met this goal ahead of schedule, making the levy cuts that took effect this year, and our proposed cuts for
next year, possible.”
A feature of the proposed changes next year includes the introduction of risk rating for two classes of light passenger
vehicles, which include cars.
“Under risk rating, the levy you pay when you relicense your car will reflect how safe the car is in a crash. The safer
the car, the lower the levy. But all cars will have a lower licence levy under our proposed changes for 2015.”
Ms Rebstock says ACC has posted a comprehensive list of vehicle models and makes on its website.
“You can use this list to see what risk ‘band’ your car falls under, and what licence levy you will pay if our proposed
changes are implemented.”
After levy consultation ends on June 17, ACC will consider all submissions, then make its recommendations on levies to
the Minister for ACC.
The final decision on levies rests with the Government.
