Cloud Cannon Launches Attack on Static Website Creation

The cumbersome task of deploying, hosting and maintaining a new website is well known to Mike Neumegen and George
Phillips, whose startup Cloud Cannon aims to simplify the process for web designers globally.
After years of making websites for local businesses in Dunedin, Neumegen and Phillips decided to build their own
platform for deploying updatable websites that would be of use to the 4 million new sites going live each month
internationally. The two developed Cloud Cannon, empowering web designers to publish custom websites from anywhere in
the world in just 60 seconds.
“As programmers ourselves, we understand the challenges and pitfalls of being a freelance web designer,” says CEO
Neumegen. “Our mission is to completely streamline the process of deploying websites to the internet.”
Cloud Cannon gives programmers complete control over their designs, while giving their own clients the ability to edit
content freely. Using Dropbox’s API, designers simply drag and drop files into the cloud and assign HTML tags to
editable content. With Cloud Cannon, the complexities typically involved in deploying and maintaining new websites are
simply moved to the background.
The company has already seen promising traction in New Zealand, the US and beyond. To date, Cloud Cannon has 1,800 users
worldwide and is serving more than 10,000,000 pages per month.
Neumegen and Phillips recently moved to Wellington to enter digital startup accelerator program Lightning Lab. At the
program’s Demo Day this week, the duo aims to raise funding to scale the product, expand the team and continue
international growth.
“We want to make life easier for web designers and free up time for what’s important, creativity,” says Neumegen.
