Mac’s Continues Winning Ways
New Zealand beers have continued their recent run of form, clocking up some impressive medals at the 2014 Australian
International Beer Awards last week. Mac’s Spring Tide took out Gold in the low carbohydrate lager category (the only
gold awarded in its category) and the Mac’s range also performed strongly across the board with a silver medal for Mac’s
Gold and bronze medals for Mac’s Hop Rocker, Mac’s Shady Pale and Mac’s Great White in their respective categories.
That wasn’t the only success for Lion’s beer portfolio though, with Speight’s picking up three medals, Crafty Beggars
two and Steinlager Pure one.
Mark Scown of Lion says: “It’s great to see the judges recognising the quality of beer across the Mac’s range, with
Spring Tide being a standout this year. This follows on from trophies for Mac’s Hop Rocker and Mac’s Gold in these
awards last year as well as a Gold medal for Mac’s Sassy Red in the 2013 International Beer Awards.”
“It’s also really nice to see the New Zealand brewing community in such a healthy state, consistently winning
international recognition. Special mention goes out to fellow Brewers Guild of New Zealand member Renaissance Brewing in
taking out best international small brewery for the second year running, a truly outstanding result.”
In 2014, the AIBA received a record 1,560 entries from more than 294 brewers from 31 countries. The diverse range of
styles were assessed by an expert panel of 40 judges during a week of judging at Melbourne Showground’s.
