Wrapper “Good Enough to Eat”
“It almost looked good enough to eat!” was the judges’ comment that sealed the Packaging Category success of the Fishers
Beef Sirloin Wrap for the Sealed Air NZ plant in Hamilton.
Judges felt the wrap delivered the perfect attraction to the eye of the supermarket shopper. Comments included “an
excellent job … great solid colour … clean and sharp … very nice work.”
Judge Mark Thian said the packaging had been printed with wonderful density of colour, which reflected the craftsmanship
in the job.
“They have achieved such great colour that pictorially, the food is almost life-like. That can only enhance the
saleability of the product to the end consumer.”
The Fishers Beef Sirloin wrap also won the Flexography Process Award for Sealed Air NZ.
Sealed Air Hamilton’s Wade Collins described being a Supreme Award Finalist for the second time in short succession and
the entire night as “amazing”.
“ … especially with Steven Hunter winning Apprentice of the Year and that for every job we entered, we got a Gold
Medal,” he said.
“We have our plant manager here for the first time and after tonight, I’d say he’d be here every year.”
Mr Collins said the work, which was the second Supreme Finalist appearance for the company in short succession, made
Fishers’ products “really stand out from the pack”.
“We’ve had comments before about how dense we can get our black and the job that we printed had a main solid black that
took over the whole package.
“For the last year or so we’ve been making a huge changeover in the plates that we use. We are now getting these from
iPlates, so they are Kodak plates, and we’re getting comments from customers on the improvement in our printing.
“This is a customer that we used to print for years ago and they have come back to us. We are finding that our
customers, especially with new jobs on Kodak plates -- they are absolutely amazed -- we are getting flexo having gravure
quality.”
