Great Things in Small Packages
“Good things come in small packages” describes the carpet label that has brought the Labels Category prize to Impressions International Ltd of Penrose.
The Mess-Defying label shows a pug dog lying prone on a carpet, looking at the viewer with doleful eyes.
Its appeal in projecting the properties of the carpet was immediately apparent to judges, who were also bowled over by its technical accomplishments.
Judge Mark Sullivan described the label as a “beautiful small surprise package”.
“This job came through the judging process with no negative comments, which is an outstanding achievement.
“Every judge felt the label had photographic quality. We believe a lot of pride has gone into producing this job.”
From a craft perspective, Mr Sullivan said the printers had pushed the boundaries.
“It is certainly an amazing piece of work,” he said.
Impressions International general manager Dale Bamford said the Supreme Finalist recognition was a “fantastic result” for the company and its staff.
“In a really competitive industry it is nice to know that at a tough time you shouldn’t sacrifice quality -- it is great to know quality wins through in the end of the day,” he said.
“It was a very difficult substrate to print on and get the quality result the customer wanted. It involved a number of attempts with different stocks and inks, and perseverance by the team to get the best result for the customer.”
“The customer didn’t know about the issues we had. At the end of the day, it’s the team that does the hard work behind the scenes and it shows their commitment to quality. The job was actually exported to Australia, so it shows they are willing to come to New Zealand for a job that is printed well.”
Mr Bamford said this was his company’s second successive Supreme Award Finals
appearance.
“We are rapt to follow up last year with another success.”
