Crossroads Winemakers Collection Syrah Recognised As “New
Zealand’s Best Red Wine”
Crossroads
Winemakers Collection Syrah 2012 has been awarded “Best
New Zealand Red Wine” and “Best New Zealand Syrah” at
the International Wine Challenge (IWC) in London on Saturday
17 May (UK time).
Judges commented that the wine was a “cool climate wonder”, “extremely well-balanced” and “a superb expression of this noble variety”.
The IWC is now in its 31st year and is accepted as the world's finest and most meticulously judged wine competition. Throughout the rigorous judging processes, each medal-winning wine is tasted on three separate occasions by at least ten different judges.
Crossroads Winemaker Miles Dinneen said “It is great to receive this recognition for our Syrah at such a prestigious competition. Our Elms vineyard on the Gimblett Gravels consistently produces gold medal and trophy wines and this is the biggest one yet. Syrah is an exciting variety in Hawke’s Bay, producing a distinctive aromatic style across the full range of vintage conditions.”
