Commerce Commission decision good for industry and NZ

Commerce Commission decision good for industry and New Zealanders

InternetNZ today welcomes the Commerce Commission’s sensible decision to extend the copper pricing consultation, saying it will provide a better result for Kiwi consumers and businesses alike.

After the Commerce Commission had stated it aimed to get the final pricing principle completed by December 1st, InternetNZ and several other organisations submitted that the Commerce Commission was unnecessarily rushing to suit Chorus and that this would only create further problems down the track.

InternetNZ Work Programme Director Andrew Cushen is delighted that the Commission is thinking more seriously about its obligations.

“It’s pleasing to see that the Commission is going to take more time than it originally said. The extension will address some of the issues we raised in our submission.

“The work the Commerce Commission is asked to do is very difficult and certainly complex. Rushing for the sake of rushing was never a good move. If the industry genuinely wants certainty it will welcome this announcement as a step in the right direction.”

Mr Cushen said that InternetNZ would be submitting at every juncture of this process and was looking forward to working with the Commerce Commission to provide a happy ending to what has been a difficult process.
