TSS Earnslaw heads into annual survey

Following a bumper summer season Queenstown’s 101-year-old “Lady of the Lake” the TSS Earnslaw heads up the slipway at Kelvin Grove next week to begin her annual maintenance.

The TSS Earnslaw’s last sailing will be Sunday May 11, she will stripped down on Monday May 12 and leave Steamer Wharf for Kelvin Heights at around 8am on Tuesday May 13. This year’s survey will take nine weeks with sailings to Walter Peak due to commence again on July 13.

While the TSS Earnslaw is out of the water two of Real Journeys original Fiordlander class vessels will be taking visitors to Walter Peak.

Real Journeys Chief Executive Richard Lauder says work on the TSS Earnslaw this year will focus on replacement of two sections of the vessel’s hull plating, ribs and stringers that have been worn away over the years.

“Maintenance and the preservation of the TSS Earnslaw remains a continuous focus for Real Journeys so she can be experienced for another 100 years on Lake Wakatipu,” says Lauder.

She may take a bit more effort than your average catamaran to maintain but she’s certainly worth it!”

Please note for safety reasons the slipway at Kelvin Heights will be a closed and fenced worksite.
